Those who have recently moved in to the neighbourhood of St Andrew’s may well not have realised until recently that the church clock chimes every quarter of an hour and strikes on the hour (in the manner of Big Ben at Westminster). Due to a series of mechanical problems, the clock has been out of action for much of the past eight months. The clockmakers, Smith’s of Derby, have paid a series of visits and taken a succession of parts to their workshops. It now appears that the clock is working properly and the chimes are fully back in operation. We have had some correspondence from neighbours, particularly in Fitzgerald Close. For the background about this please click on the link to ‘Groups & Activities’ and then ‘Bells’. You will find a detailed explanation of the history of this and how the church has sought to respond to the concerns of our neighbours.
