St Andrew’s Singers
This is the overarching group of singers that provides a full choir for Choral Eucharist (generally on the second Sunday of each month), for special services like the Advent Carol Service, Passiontide Meditation and Remembrance-tide Requiem, and for occasional Choral Evensongs. Preparation for these occasions is at evening rehearsals (7.30 to 9pm) in church on the previous Monday and Friday, and then during the hour immediately preceding the service. For the Nine Lessons and Carols on Christmas Eve, the choir is often augmented by singers from the parish who cannot commit to singing more regularly at St Andrew’s. Members of this group also commit where possible to be on a rota to sing on at least one other Sunday each month in smaller SATB combinations to support the worship at 10 am for Parish Communion and All-Age Communion. Individuals from this group also lead the worship songs or choruses at the Family Service on the first Sunday of the month. For all of these Sundays, the rehearsal happens in the 45 minutes preceding the service.
There are no auditions to join St Andrew’s singers: the relatively light commitment (i.e. not necessarily a rehearsal or service every single week) is geared towards busy people, parents with young children, etc., who cannot commit themselves weekly and the expectation is that those who join the group will have good general musical capability and experience, and are able to pick up challenging music quickly. All those who are interested are encouraged to have a conversation with the Director of Music in the first instance.

Music Group
The Music Group provides a more informal style of music – worship songs, but also jazzed-up versions of traditional hymns – with singing led from the microphone by one or two members of St Andrew’s Singers. At present this is on an occasional basis, both for evening services and Family Services on Sunday mornings, currently about once a term.

Other musical activities
Many other musical activities happen as time and forces permit. Please get in touch with Peter Wadl, the Music Director, if you would like to see St Andrew’s doing something in the musical line that is not currently provided for (preferably offering at the same time to take a prominent part in it)! We put on concerts and productions from time to time and St. Andrew’s Church is often used by outside groups for concerts.
