Developing Music at St Andrew’s

Music has long been a valued and cherished dimension of worship and community life at St Andrew’s. We are currently reviewing and developing new structures for supporting music at St Andrew’s. As a church community, our aim is to involve and encourage as many as possible to share their gifts in music – whether singing, playing an instrument, or teaching and leading others.

If you would like to find out more about music at St Andrew’s, and opportunities to get involved, the current contact is Chris Pountain.

Minims

Minims is a singing group for 4- to 8-year-olds and meets on 1st and 3rd Sundays, 4pm in church. It lasts around 45 minutes and parents stay for the whole time. Contact Lizzie Fleming.

Youth Choir

The Youth Choir practises weekly on Thursdays in the Vestry from 7-8pm during term time. This is a singing group for youth from school years 4-13. Youth are welcome to come try it out: any level of experience is welcome. Any questions, please e-mail Sharon Neufeld or talk to her after church.

Allcomers Group

The Allcomers Group sings regularly at the All-age Communion on the third Sunday in the month. This group is suitable for those who would like to try out singing in church, or who are returning to singing after a time away. If you would like to take part in future months, please let Chris know.

Sung Eucharist Group

The Sung Eucharist Group is a group of singers who have some previous experience of choral singing and enjoy the classical Anglican repertoire. They sing at the monthly Sung Eucharist on second Sunday mornings. Please contact Chris know if this sounds like you!

Evening Singers

The Evening Singers are a group of experienced singers who lead a traditional choral evening service (usually Evensong) on the first Sunday of each month. Please contact Peter Horley if you would be interested in joining them.

St Andrew’s Band

St Andrew’s Band is a small band of musicians (including singers) who lead worship at the family service (first Sunday of each month). We welcome a variety of instruments as this adds to the breadth of sound in worship. Contact Catherine Blydenstein if you are interested in joining or if you have any questions.
