A big thank you to everyone who came along to last week’s performances of Breaking the Silence of the British Slave Trade.
It has been agreed: the Collisions Theatre cast were outstanding.
With song and word, they brought their audience back into the past to experience an 18th century abolitionist meeting. With testimony from the historical figures Hannah More (Sophie Morris-Sheppard), Mary Prince (Lola May), Granville Sharp (Stuart Curlett), Dido Elizabeth Belle Lindsay (Maya Manuel), Thomas Clarkson (Adam Pardy), Ottobah Cuguano (Kwaku Ankomah), Olaudah Equiano (Ben Scheck), and Elizabeth Heyrick (Prof. Holly Maples) the evenings were memorable for all who attended.
The question and answer time following the performance was also appreciated as audience members had the chance to explore thoughts, questions, and ideas the performance had inspired.
Young and old alike left knowing a little bit more about this challenging time in history and, it is hoped, inspired to continue the work and take a stand against modern slavery.
