Holy Week services this year begin on Sunday 24 March – Palm Sunday. At 8 am there will be a Holy Communion service following the Book of Common Prayer (BCP). At 10 am those wishing to attend the Parish Communion and Café Church services will begin outside in the churchyard together for a procession with palms before those attending Parish Communion enter the church and those who are part of Café Church will process to St Andrew’s Hall. Palm Sunday will be rounded off with a Choral Passion service in church at 5:30 pm.
The next Holy Week service will be held on Wednesday 27 March where there will be a Sung Compline in church at 8 pm. The following day on Maundy Thursday, 28 March we will gather at St Andrew’s Hall for a simple meal followed by the washing of feet and a contemplative Communion Service. A sign up sheet for the meal is available at the back of church. Please indicate any dietary requirements you may have.
Easter Weekend begins with a Walk of Witness at 10:30 am on Friday 29 March. This annual walk is an opportunity for Christians in Chesterton to gather together to walk through our community, praying, and reflecting on Good Friday. We will begin at St George’s and finish at St Andrew’s where there will be refreshments and crafts at St Andrew’s Hall. At 1 pm there will be an hour of quiet in church followed by a Last Hour service at 2 pm.
To prepare for Easter Sunday, on Easter Eve we will meet at St Andrew’s at 8 pm on Saturday 30 March for the Lighting of the New Fire and Easter Vigil in church. It will then be time to celebrate Easter Sunday! On 31 March there will be an 8 am Holy Communion service following the BCP before a 10 am All-Age Communion in church. In the evening, there will be a Choral Evensong service at 5:30 pm.
Everyone is welcome to any and all of these services.
Let’s make the journey to the cross (and celebrate the resurrection) together!
