Advent – a time of promise and new beginnings

Our restoration works are happily coming to an end, ready for our celebration of Advent – a time when we reflect and look forward to Christmas, and traditionally the start of the church calendar. Our Advent Choral Evening Service this coming Sunday, 3 December at 5.30 pm, is a beautiful candlelit service of music and readings for Advent, and the first of our special services in the weeks leading up to Christmas. We hope to welcome you to St Andrew’s in this time of preparation and waiting for the joy of Christmas.

This beautiful candlelit service of music and readings heralds the start of Advent and our preparations towards Christmas.

A classic Christingle service, starting with make your own Christingle. With music from the Minims young singers, this is a special service of light and hope for all ages.

You are welcome to come dressed as your favourite Nativity character for this service – a shepherd, a king, an angel . . . or even a camel?!

Come and sing your favourite carols led by members of the CSD Brass Band. All welcome to this joyous community event, raising funds for WinterComfort. Warming seasonal refreshments served after the singing!

The church is always packed for our candlelit Service of Nine Lessons and Carols, so we recommend arriving in good time! Through the familiar traditional readings, hymns and carols we hear the beautiful news of Christmas.

At this quieter late-night service, we celebrate Jesus’ coming into the world, our lighted candles symbolising that he came as a light into a world of darkness and suffering, a light that no powers on Earth can ever extinguish.

A joyful Christmas morning service for all ages as we sing together ‘Yea Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning’.
